How it began
I first came across karate as a child, when I started practising Shotokan karate. I could only go for half a year then, but it still left a lasting mark: I fell in love with karate for life.
In 1985 I started again, this time regularly, three times a week for two hours. Wado-Ryu was practised at Szilágyi Erzsébet Gimnázium, next to my primary school, taught by Master István Szentimrei Réti, who brought Wado-Ryu to Hungary, and later by Master József Pétercsák.
Years of study, in several styles
In 1990 I practised Kyokushinkai with Master István Balázs, and from 1991 Wado-Ryu with Master Károly Nagy.
In 1992 I began my university studies at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), and graduated as an energy engineer in 1995. Part of the course was held in Paks, so I practised Wado-Ryu in Budapest and Kyokushinkai karate in Paks, with Master Tamás Krasznai.
Ré-Zen-do
From 1996 I regularly attended Ré-Zen-do practice with Masters István Szentimrei Réti and József Pétercsák. In 2014 Master István Szentimrei Réti awarded me the 5th dan in Ré-Zen-do and the licence to open my own dojo. In spring 2015 I began leading Zen-do practice for adults.
In the Magyar Wado-Ryu Akadémia®
In 2009 I became a member of the Magyar Wado-Ryu Akadémia®, led by Sensei Róbert Torontáli. In 2011 I passed my 2nd dan grading before Master Masafumi Shiomitsu, and in 2018 my 3rd dan grading before Master Tran Hieu Minh. I have been leading Wado-Ryu training sessions since 2020.
As an instructor
In 2016 I completed the state-certified (OKJ) karate coach training of the Hungarian University of Sports Science, because I want to lead practice of a high standard in every respect. Today I teach adults at Heiwa Dojo, beginners included, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, at the same school where I once started.
Competitions
I competed in three karate championships:
- 1992National Wado-Ryu kumite championship (non-contact): 3rd place
- 1993National Kyokushinkai kumite championship, +85 kg (full contact): 1st place
- 1993National open karate kumite championship (non-contact): 2nd place
I owe a great deal to karate in every area of my life.
We practise on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6–8 pm.
